Commander John Fuller, USN

Commander Fuller received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 1987.

His initial sea duty assignment was in USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG-48) as Damage Control Assistant and Combat Information Center Officer from September 1988 until June 1991.  During his tour, VANDEGRIFT conducted two deployments to the Persian Gulf, participating in Operations EARNEST WILL and DESERT SHIELD.

Commander Fuller subsequently completed the Manpower/Personnel Training Analysis curriculum at the Naval Postgraduate School in March 1993, earning a Master of Science degree in management.  After completing the Surface Warfare Officer Department Head Course, Commander Fuller reported to USS KAUFFMAN (FFG-59) as Chief Engineer, serving from January 1994 to November 1995.  During his tour, KAUFFMAN participated in Operation ABLE MANNER off the coast of Haiti and completed a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea.

Commander Fuller was then assigned as a space inspector on the Commander, Atlantic Fleet Propulsion Examining Board from November 1995 to November 1997.  He next served as the Flag Secretary to Commander, Amphibious Force, Seventh Fleet stationed in Okinawa, Japan from November 1997 to November 1999.

Commander Fuller graduated from the College of Naval Command and Staff at the Naval War College in November 2000, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.  He was then forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan in USS CURTIS WILBUR (DDG-54) as the Executive Officer from March 2001 to July 2002.  During his tour, CURTIS WILBUR conducted an emergent deployment with USS KITTY HAWK to participate in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Commander Fuller was next assigned to the Surface Warfare Directorate (N76) on the Navy Staff from July 2002 to April 2005 as the Plans & Policy/Community Issues Section Head and as the Strategy & Alignment Branch Head.

Commander Fuller most recently commanded USS MASON (DDG 87) from January 2006 to August 2007.  MASON conducted an eight month deployment with the EISENHOWER Strike Group to 5th and 6th Fleets.   He now serves as the 4th Battalions Officer at the United States Naval Academy.

   Supported three National Symposia (theme/sked development, escort, military liaison, drafted OPNAV approval message)
   Helped developed the annual calendar for the GWC chapter 
   MC for the 2004 GWC Fall golf tournament
   Attended EXCOM meetings as N76 rep
   Principle military coordinator for 3 Navy Birthday Balls
   Worked with USNA 3 for service selection night activities
   Principle military rep for two SNA Football tailgaters
   Military rep for monthly GWC luncheons, identifying speakers, themes, providing media support etc.      

2007
 USNA Chapter President (There are actually two components, the Midshipmen organization and the “regular” SNA)
     Supported BOD meeting for shaping SNA for the next 10 years
     Supported USS MAHAN (DDG 72) visit by hosting wardroom for dinner and reception with
 Midshipmen and provided
     a tailgate location for homecoming.
     Supported the Navy Ball
